Meet the Candidates
Denise Sheehan is a life-long resident of the Capital Region. She has over 20 years of managerial experience, having served in various capacities in government and the nonprofit sectors. Her experience includes nearly 10 years with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), including two years as its Commissioner. At DEC, Denise led the agency’s 3,500 employees, managed the Department’s $950 million annual budget and oversaw its statewide operations. While Commissioner she developed a reputation for her pragmatic style in successfully balancing the Department’s responsibilities of protecting the environment and public health with the State’s business and economic development goals.
Denise holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Political Science from the State University of New York. She is also the recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Award in Public Administration and Policy from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the University at Albany. Denise was educated through South Colonie public school system and is a 1982 graduate of Colonie Central High School.
Denise and her husband, Mike Miller, reside in Colonie. Denise has three stepchildren, Katy, Becky and Douglas. Douglas is serving in the US Marine Corps and is currently deployed in active duty in Afghanistan.
Denise has been active in community activities in the Capital Region, serving on the Boards of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy and the Shaker Heritage Historical Society. She is also a member of the Capital Regional Action Against Breast Cancer, the Blue Star Mothers, UAlbany Alumni Association and the Colonie Irish.
Peter Molinaro:
Peter Molinaro is a strategic planner with a passion for public policy. A former school board president, Pete is a practicing attorney assisting clients on a wide variety of insurance and risk management matters. He has been a volunteer firefighter for the Village of Menands since 1988, attaining the rank of Captain, and has served as President of the Menands Fire Company #1, Inc. for nearly ten years. Pete earned his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School of Union University, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Le Moyne College in Syracuse. He lives with his wife and sons in Menands.
Tom is a lifelong local resident and successful businessman with managerial and real-estate experience. Tom is a proud husband and father of two young children. He belongs to a large extended family that resides throughout the Capital Region, and is an active member of the Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department.
Kevin Halburian:
Kevin is a teacher, coach, and mentor with the power to lead and inspire. A lifelong resident of Colonie, Kevin and his wife Ann are the proud parents of two daughters. A 1982 graduate of Colonie High School, Kevin receieved his degree in education from Springfield College. Currently, Kevin is a Physical Education teacher at Colonie High School and the Head Varsity Baseball coach and Assistant Varsity Football coach. Kevin is an active member of the Colonie Elks and Polish American Citizens Club. Kevin’s family also raises and trains dogs for the Guiding Eyes Program.
